Making of a Newport Meal

Selections from the Newport Historical Society’s Collections

Part of the Newport Eats initiative, the goal of which is to highlight the role of food throughout Newport County's history, this digital exhibit explores 19th and 20th century foodways from sea to farm to table. Making of a Newport Meal traces the journey of a meal from supply, to preparation, planning, and finally presentation, through a selection of materials from the Newport Historical Society's food-related collections. The Newport Eats project aims to illuminate past gastronomic traditions and provide historic context to present-day ideas such as sustainability, local sourcing, and community building through public programming, digital exhibits, and ongoing outreach.
